The reasons for the air compressor tripping
Oct 19 , 2024

The possible reasons for a compressor tripping could include but are not limited to the following points:

1.Power Issues: Power supply problems such as voltage instability, under-voltage, and over-voltage can cause the protective devices of the air compressor to actuate, leading to equipment tripping.

2.Motor Failure: Motor failures such as short circuits in the motor coil, burned windings, and damaged bearings can affect the normal operation of the motor, leading to tripping.

3.Control System Failure: Issues such as controller failure, sensor damage, and aging wiring in the control system can affect the normal operation of the air compressor, leading to tripping.

4.Abnormal Pressure: Excessive or insufficient work pressure can both lead to equipment tripping. When the system pressure is too high, the safety valve opens to relieve pressure and triggers the tripping; when the system pressure is too low, it may cause the air compressor to fail to start normally.

5.Abnormal Temperature: During operation, the air compressor generates heat. If the heat dissipation is poor or the ambient temperature is too high, it can lead to abnormal equipment temperature. When the temperature exceeds the set value, the temperature protection device will trigger a shutdown to protect the equipment.

6.Improper Maintenance: Issues such as insufficient lubricant replacement, clogged filters, and inadequate cleaning of the cooling system due to improper maintenance, can lead to the shutdown of the air compressor.

7.Start under pressure: If there is pressure in the system when the air compressor starts, resulting in the starting current being too high, the air switch trips to protect the unit. This is usually caused by a malfunction of the minimum pressure valve, or a blockage in the pressure relief system.

8.Excessive resistance of the head of the air compressor: The resistance of the head of the air compressor is too large, which leads to the large starting current of the air compressor and trips the air switch. Possible causes include high oil viscosity, coking of the machine head, or excessive amount of oil in the machine head.

9.Electrical Safety Issues: If the specifications of the circuit breaker are sufficient, it might indicate a fault ground or inter-phase short circuit in the motor. It is necessary to check the machine's wiring to determine if there is a short circuit. Additionally, machine leakage can also cause the circuit breaker to trip, especially when the insulation layer of the electric parts on the machine is damaged.

10.Equipment Failure: Issues such as severe clogging of the air filter, the intake valve not being open, damage to the time relay, the pressure maintaining valve being stuck, excessively high exhaust temperature, inability to operate at full load, and oil injection faults can all lead to the shutdown of the air compressor.

In response to these reasons, appropriate measures should be taken for handling, such as checking the power lines, motor maintenance, system control checks, pressure and temperature regulation, regular maintenance and servicing, to ensure the normal operation of the air compressor.
