How long is the replacement cycle of air compressor lubricating oil? How to determine when it needs to be replaced?
Sep 05 , 2024

The replacement cycle of air compressor lubricant is usually affected by many factors, including the quality of the lubricant, the air humidity, impurities, acid and alkaline gases in the operating environment, etc. The following are some general guidelines and judgment methods:

1.Lubricant replacement cycle: For mineral lubricants, it is usually recommended to replace them every 2000-3000 hours; semi-synthetic lubricants every 4000-6000 hours; and fully synthetic lubricants every 6000-8000 hours. However, these cycles may be adjusted according to the specific use environment and conditions.

2.Lubricant quality: High-quality lubricants provide longer change intervals. Mixing lubricants from different brands may affect performance and should be avoided.

3.Ambient humidity: In environments with higher humidity, the lubricant may absorb more moisture, causing the lubricant to deteriorate prematurely, so more frequent changes may be required.

4.Impurities and wear debris: As the air compressor runs, impurities and wear debris will enter the lubricating oil, which may shorten the service life of the lubricating oil.

5.Acidic and alkaline gases: If there are acidic and alkaline gases in the working environment of the air compressor, these gases may react with the lubricating oil and accelerate the aging of the lubricating oil.

6.Determine the replacement time: The color, viscosity and acid value of the lubricant are important indicators for determining whether it needs to be replaced. If the color of the lubricant becomes darker, the viscosity changes by more than ±15%, or the acid value exceeds 0.5mgKOH/g, it should be considered for replacement.

7.Periodic Inspection: It is recommended to sample and inspect the lubricating oil regularly to monitor changes in its performance.

8.Special cases: For newly purchased or overhauled air compressors, the lubricating oil may need to be replaced more frequently in the early stage to remove the wear debris generated during the running-in process.

9.Clean the lubrication system: Every time you change the lubricating oil, it is very important to clean the lubrication system to ensure that there is no old oil residue that will affect the performance of the new oil.

10.Manufacturer recommendations: Follow the compressor manufacturer's recommendations and the guidance of your lubricant supplier, who may provide more specific change intervals based on compressor model and usage conditions.

In short, the replacement cycle of lubricating oil should be determined according to the actual use and the performance change of lubricating oil. Regular inspection and maintenance are the key to ensure the efficient operation of air compressor and extend the life of equipment.
